I'm a full-blooded female!!! Rejoice in the discovery... RE-discovery really!!! Rejoice! Rejoice! I have a soft spot for effeminate flows, soft colours and pretty dresses!! And I bought my dress for 200 bucks!! Rejoice! Rejoice that I didn't get a stupid Cinderella skirt for 400 bucks instead (the ones they sell at Salabianca). So now I have my second gown bought from Somerset Bay. The next thing I have to do is get rid of the stubborn flab that's parasiting happily around my hips and my arms within 3 weeks. Get a flowy soft shawl and pretty accessoriest to adorn my arm, wrist, whatever. And a nice little bag. Then maybe I'll look better than I did last year.

I understand perfectly well that if I continue filling up my Blog with memoirs of my food-going adventures I might as well turn this into a food connoissuer's journey Blog. That I'm not, although if God will allow me to keep my figure in check, I wouldn't mind becoming one. I heard they pay pretty well for a eatery columnist, both in $$ and in terms of food. You get to go to classy restaurants and not-so-classy ones, churn up a article about your adventures or misadventures and get paid about 150 bucks for that article which will, consequently decide the fate of the lucky/not-so-lucky restaurant. And the food is free.

Unfortunately, the food in Oishi Japanese Buffet Restaurant (Boulevard, Mid Valley) costs a bomb for a not-so-wide platter. There's the usual sushi, sukiyaki and tempura, unagi and udon also got... a bit of desert (with really dreamy Green Tea Ice Cream comparable to the ones they serve at the Hilton PJ) and good crabs and other shellfish... but stopping shy of the WIDE WIDE selective I enjoyed at Saisaki. The price? RM 43++. Of course its cheap compared to the 5 star hotel fare (Nagisa, Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel's Japanese restaurant buffet, for instance, is RM 98++ ) but the limited platter is pretty disappointing. The occasion was Christmas Eve and we decided to bring my 78 year old granny for a visit to a nice classy place... and fortunately Oishi is victorious in that sense. Really cool atmosphere for a dedicated buffet restaurant. My granny was greatly pleased by the constant changing of plates and the 'wah-so-expensive' food... she kept on taking the oysters ... and ma and me had to keep stuffing ourselves with them in case granny had too much.

I'm headed to the Sun & Surf Cafe for New Year's Day. That's going to burn a RM 55 size-hole in my purse (because I don't put money in my pockets) but my blog will be filled with more food. Can't wait.

My Gold Class Adventures - Memoirs of a Self Confessed Jakun

1100 -- Arrival at Mid Valley.
1115 -- Brunch at Dave's Deli - two quarter roasts minus the potatoes for fear of carbohydrates.
1145 -- Roamed the mall. Took some photos at the Centre court. There got very nice Xmas decos!!
1215 -- Arrival at the cinema. Whoa, the crowd was unbelievable. Gold Class counters were sealed off. A small sign said "LOTR Gold Class Tickets for Sat, Sun, Mon SOLD OUT. OOOOOoooooooooh I have my tickets I have my tickets...
1220 -- Announcement: "We regret to tell you that for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, tickets for Saturday 1 pm, 1.40 pm blablabla until 12.40 midnight have been sold out. MMMMuahahahahahah serves the non-kiasu right. Go wait lah, go wait until next week!
1230 -- Want to release tension a.k.a. nature called. Tried to look rich and famous as asked the attendants at the International Screens entrance whether we could use toilets inside. Tried extra hard to maintain dignity as politely informed that Gold Class has its own private loo.
1235 -- Masuk Gold Class lounge. Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh nice man. Nice nice chairs. Got mini bar. Got private toilet. Except..... private toilet only had a single cubicle. And single cubicle was occupied. Watched unhappily as PY got to finish his business first.
1237 -- Fat-girl-who-occupied-my-cubicle emerges as PY comes out. See PY's gaping mouth and figured out he thought I'd morphed into fat-girl-who-occupied-cubicle. Grinned assuringly at him. Masuk my cubicle. OK only lah.Nothing to shout about. At least its clean. Did my business. Must leave a mark behind, so decided to make big business also.
1245 -- Siap my kerja. Come out as PY was ordering Heineken and Mineral Water. Sat down on nice nice chairs to read a book on George Lucas and gaped at the nice nice pictures of George Lucas's Skywalker Ranch. One day I'll be richer than that guy.

And then.....

1255 -- Masuk theatrette. Ehhhhhhhhh no wonder they call it Gold Class. Sat down in very huge velvet armchairs that had the workings of Joey and Chandler's armchairs. Pull a clutch by the bottom left and the foot rest goes up and the chair leans back. Ahhhhhhhhh I can sleep in these.
When they show the Nokia switch off your handphone ad A GSC attendant served the ordered refreshments.
The moment of reckoning!!! -- Wahhhhhh this is better and bigger than Fellowship of the Ring. Not bad, not bad. Gollum is not that scary as the papers say. He's like what Dobby and Yoda would have produced if they decided to have a baby together!! Boyfriend drools hungrily everytime Liv Tyler appears on screen. I still think my eyes are more expressive then hers!! Wahhhhhhh Legolas is damn 'Yau Yeng' ler!!
It began to feel like this... Bloody cold. Hair all standing on end. Next time I come in I'm going to get the 5 Ringgit blanket. Things on screen getting spicier. Stupid nature trying to call again. And the cold... yeee.....
Cannot tahan liao..... And then I knew, as the baddie tried to seduce Eowyn, I had to go. I told PY I had to go. I went. I answered the call. And I ran back.
Back to the theatrette Its so dark here!!! And on screen Gandalf and crew arrive at the human settlement. Wah.... What did I miss? Still so freaking freezing ler. Wah.... Legolas is so leng chai. Wah... oops!!! Ter-duduk on the foot rest and fell on the carpet. I was so malufied!!! Idiot boyfriend was laughing at me "What happened to you?? hahaha Be careful". Malu malu malunya.....
Awestruck Great movie ler. Great great movie. The first one had parts that made me sleep. This one is better.
As the Ents have their EntmootNature ringing again. Not..... kenot...... this one must tahan....... too excited. TAHAN......
The curtain fallsDing-ding-ding. Applause for a great movie. And all the people run to the toilet. We are human after all. Ah...... don't care about them. I'll finish my urgent business at the International Screens washrooms.

The Verdict: I'm going to catch The Return of the King in Gold Class next year. And I'll bring some winter clothes and put on diapers.

Whooppeee!! I got the tickets. Actually Pek Yong got them. The sweetie went to Mid Valley at 845 and was in the 6th place. Unfortunately, by his turn 60% of tickets for Gold Class were all gone. Anyway he managed to get 3rd row fr the screen at 1.00pm, Saturday. So I'm watching it (pretty late) on Saturday as you see. I'm actually skipping Corballi's screening lecture of The Letter (Prof Corballis claims to be one of the unknown minors in LOTR as he's fr New Zealand, and he teaches me Film and Media haha) on Saturday just to catch LOTR. Fortunately the kind ol' fella has allowed me to skip the class to watch the movie.

By the way, he's cited 128 filming errors in The Fellowship of the Ring, plus also, the fact that Peter Jackson has a cameo in the Prancing Pony scene, where Frodo accidentally puts on the ring. I'll probably rewatch the 1st part in preparation for Saturday's grand screening. And then after that, I'll tell you all about my Gold Class adventures!!!!!!!

I made another non-bake cake again today for the weekend, my early Christmas. Actually I've spent a lot on Christmas. The other day I bought a pair of shoes from Studio for Mom. Those were a little more than 50. And then I bought the very, very cute, big bellied Santa from Russ for RM 70 for Pek Yong. I actually wanted it for myself but figured out that Mom's pretty anti-soft toy now since I have so many, especially since I've been bringing them all out to wash. I bought it for PY so that I get to meet and cuddle Santa more often. Plus the clothes and stuff I've bought for myself. I think everything amounted to around 800 ringgit. Add another 500 or so I'd get my digital camera. Ah... the perils of being caught in the midst of the M'sian Mega Sale!!!

Anyway, back to my cake. I think its a flop this time. The last time I made tiramisu I never bothered to put vanilla extract because there wasn't any at home, but today I added a teaspoon. Now the cheese doesn't smell like cheese. It stinks of vanilla. I hate vanilla. Yucks. Oh yeah, I changed the base too!!! Instead of ladyfingers I crushed oreo with its cream. I hope that'll make up for the excess vanilla smell. I also added 2 tablespoons of Kahlua and a big dollop of Hershey's Chocolate Syrup, with hopes of making up for the vanilla stench. So far it still spells VANILLA...... urgh!!! I wonder how it will taste. Will see tomorrow!!!

Did I mentioned I went to MidValley yesterday afternoon at 12noon to try to get LOTR Gold Class Tickets for Thursday's opening? The crowd!!! Horrible, horrible. You'd never believe it was a working Tuesday with the queue you had to survive to get into the car park. I had to enter through J,K entrance (which is NOT that known to people, and after this entry I hope people still won't know it) to get into carpark D and still I had to find a lot in P2. And then rushing up to lift fr A to the 3rd floor.... hah!! People just rushed as if they were giving away free candy or something. The queues at the cinema were the same queues you'd normally see on a Saturday afternoon. The best part was, the line for Gold Class Tickets was -------------------------------------------------- this long! Everyone's planning to watch LOTR in Gold Class!! That's like 25 bucks a ticket, compared to the normal 10 bucks a ticket in the usual theatres. And then, the horror of horrors! A tiny little sign in bold screamed these words: " LOTR The Two Towers: Thursday Gold Class Tickets Sold Out".

Of course I didn't get my tickets, considering the knowledge that most of the seats available in other theatres were either booked or taken, I'd have to settle for the fornt 3 rows which is Never, Ever in my dictionary of to-dos. And maybe I'm like the rest of the world, I also want to watch TTT in Gold Class. So I'm going to break into Mid Valley at 5 am tomorrow to be ahead of everyone when the ticket counters open at 10.30am. If I'm lucky I might just get prime seats for Saturday night.

My grandma's in town. I just got back fr dinner with her and my ma and my 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins. The first two are older than me and the 3rd is 2 years younger. Dinner was of course, near Cheras, where they live. I don't know what the name of the restaurant was; as usual I never bother to find out. I went there once before, once when Pek Yong wanted to take us to Soon Tuck (where they're famous for steamed Fish Head) but the shop was close. With great difficulty, we found a parking lot, with equal difficulty we found a reasonable table amidst what must have been around 60 tables with approximately 6-7 people each. Suddenly I realise this is another blog about my good times, great taste adventures!!

Our wonderful table was right next to the cooking area as they are in Malaysian style 'tai pai dong'. For the non-Chinese, Tai Pai Dong is a simple three syllable pronunciation for chinese restaurant-style cooking street hawker (ok , ok so the English don't work well but I don't know how to further describe it). So happens that for the next 50 minutes we had the luxury of watching the different types of dishes churn out of the kitchen. We finished a whole pot of Chyrsanthemum tea and our food still had not arrived. Dish after dish of 'jiew pai tau fu' (Signature tofu dish) appeared right before our eyes but none belonged to us. Imagine the frustration! Imagine waiting for 50 whole minutes, and only being able to savour the good times, great taste moment!!

Fortunately the food was good. So good that we didn't realise that when the waiter (an old man) refilled our pot of flower-tea, it came back a different pot. Me and my 3rd cousin only recognized the different tea pot when we finished our last grain of rice. Yes the food was either heavenly good, or we were too hungry for words. I don't know what tea it was in the pot but it tasted horrible - worse than cheap bak-ku-teh Ti Kuan Yin. Some people had very, very bad taste. Just wonder who were the lucky ones who got to enjoy our Chrysanthemum tea.

Too full for words. My stomach expanded at least 3 times to contain that big plate of Fish and Chips with Icy-cold Sprite at Secret Recipe, the sake and the California Temaki at Sushi King. Those girls can really eat.... everything is wiped clean. I know I should not wipe my chips clean but they are after all my favourite indulgence and cannot help it lah...

Wan Ping says that tuna sandwiches are very fattening. Can somebody verify this? I thought they were high in nutrition and make a good, balanced diet ... I don't eat that much rice now since I have tuna sandwiches to look at. You slice a whole onion bulb into a whole can of TC Boy White Meat Tuna in Vegetable Oil (drain the oil lah so-chai) and add mayonaise and some black pepper (because black pepper tastes and smells better than white pepper) and you get about 4 -5 sets of really tasty tuna sandwiches, good for 5 meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner and the next day's breakfast and lunch. If they are really that fattening I have to go back to rationing my meals again...Especially if I want kill people in January.

No, I have no dress yet. Yes I found a cool site online that has pretty prom dresses but everything costs 200 and above. USD. Times that by 3.80. I can get my digital camera with that kind of money ... a little bit more and I might even be able to buy my volkswagen (okay , okay so I'm exaggerating).

How come girls have to put so much effort into looking good for formal dos? The guys only have to look slick in a nice suit and well-combed hair. Life is sooooooo unfair!!!

i know things currently look horrible but i'll work on it as soon as i get back fr my dinner with friends at Mid Valley .... and btw... sorry for the missing comments link..... promise to work on it ASAP ..

Later in the day:I've touched things up and hope the site looks ok now.... this should last until after the Chinese New Year holidays at least. In the meantime I ought to learn some css to improve my work...

Oh yeah, the hiccups were cured by drinking undiluted Ribena. The trick was to drink very, very sweet liquid... so I figured out Ribena should do the trick.....

see yah!!

I can't believe I've got hiccups. I keep jolting up every second and everytime I try to speak proper my words come up horrid. The kids are laughing at me....

"Choo Ki jie jie what is wrong with you?"

"I've got -egh- the hic -egh- cups"

"What are hic-egh-cups?"

" They -egh- like this -egh- hiccups -egh- lor....."

Ma asks me to drink water...

"Kee lim chui!!!!!!!"

"I did -egh - I tried every - egh- thing, I even -egh- tried drink -egh- ing without - egh- breathing - egh-"

And then the kids giggle and I giggle and my hiccups go in between and I think my lungs HURT from -egh-ing too much...... Ma gets annoyed and she says that I'm too old to grow tall. She used to tell me that everytime a kid hiccups it means he'll grow taller. I think that's not too bad.... maybe tomorrow I'll check to see if I'm taller.

My site is called minishorts because 'shorts' rhymes a little with 'Thots' which is supposed to be spelled 'thoughts', but I thought it looked nicer spelt the way it is now. "Mini" seems to fit the phrase pretty cool so that's why it has stuck and I'm realy quite satisfied with the domain.

Somebody was not satisfied about it though. My huge bear, whose name is Ben, spoke to me this morning and he told me that he doesn't like the idea of me fiddling with a site called 'minishorts' and writing all my rambled day-(or night) stories in it. Ben said if all I wrote were fiction it would be quite okay and he doesn't mind. Lately I've been turning this site into my diary and I really do jot down what has happened in my life... those insignificant stuff - I told Ben this... and Ben says its still non-fiction which is quite unhealthy because you never know what lurks behind those mice-pointers on other people's computers. Ben is really a bear, BTW... his pic is on one of my previous entries and I've begun to bring him to bed with me and at night when everyone is asleep I start to talk to him in our own secret language. I talk, he doesn't he just looks at mean with those huge embroidered eyes and I just imagine he talks to me. It gets lonely these days because Pek Yong is studying for his final examinations (first week of January) and he doesn't want to talk to me or find out how I'm coping. I'm not coping well which is why I'm talking to Ben and not writing that regularly in my blog.

I'm beginning to get a little confused between reality and dis-reality (is there such a thing as 'dis-reality'? Yes I coined the term). I think that's why I'm beginning to speak to my bears. I used to have a bear called Brownie when I was a little girl and life got so lonely that he became my one and only friend. My aunt saw me speaking to Brownie and that was the time when she and Ma decided it was time I get to know more people... so I went to preschool at the age of 3 1/2... kinda early....

Now that I'm in a relationship I know I'm drifting further and further away from my friends. Especially now that AIESEC has come to a standstill in my life (NLDS was my final project) and I'm working on the lonely research project (only 2 kids outta the 180 of my intake are doing the research and the other girl is doing a Discourse Analysis paper while I'm doing proficiency rates), and my old friends are either working or dating or have other new friends... I just have my mother and my boyfriend. My mother is kinda moody and these days... my boyfriend doesn't seem to care that much about me as he does about his stupid final papers. So when he leaves for Seremban next March I'll be ALONE IN THIS WIDE WORLD and dying of that thirst... I miss my FRIENDS...... I know they will come back but I can't count on them forever... and unlike long long time ago I'm not making new friends anymore....

Ben told me I need to take some anti-depression pills.

Selamat Hari Raya to all my Muslim friends especially Yet Lin and Hani. I hope this Raya treats you very well and do enjoy the festivities that come along with it.

I know I enjoyed my trip to Sri Perdana today (even though I lined up at the huge gates since 7.30 only to be able to hold Dato' Seri's precious hands for less than 30 seconds - aih... worth the trip lah since this will be the last Raya that we have Dr M as our Prime Minister. I'll post up the pics once I get them developed (and that will be when I finish the roll of film of course).

I actually got to watch two romantic comedies in two days... GSC is celebrating its 3rd anniversary so the tickets are going quite cheap at RM 6 each... which is really, less than USD 2 (which proves yet again, the plusses of being in Malaysia).

The first one was of course Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest... a great adaptation of the play on the big screen... even though I do not like Reese Witherspoon, her portrayal of Cecily Cardew is really true to the book (actually I thought everyone was good especially Rupert Everett as Algernon Moncrieff) ... and I'd always seen Judi Dench as Lady Bracknell... I love Cecily's daydreams put to life (the knight in shining armor thingy). Just one thing, I wish Lane had more things to say... he isn't nearly as witty as Wilde wrote him to be (now doesn't that sound pretty faked-British?)... I think that's the good thing about proper plays, not like novels... your imagination won't tend to stray as far as it would if you read novels or fiction where the writer describes the scenes and readers get to picture them liberally. But plays keep your straying mind within control, which is why, I suppose, I enjoyed the movie so much. Go watch it. Better still, read the play and watch it. And the play is of the same title, if you're wondering.

The other movie I caught was Kate and Leopold, starring Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine of X-man fame) ... its that's kind of candy-sweet romance chick flick lah, which explains why the cinema was filled with couples (of course I watched it with my boyfriend). I watched it on Prime Saturday 9pm and still only paid RM 12 for two tickets. The movie was illogical but good entertainment. Its about this Duke (Jackman) from the 19th century who jumps off the Brooklyn bridge into the time portal and end up in modern day New York... of course the lady of his dreams has to be Meg Ryan... and as far as Meg Ryan movies go, they never go wrong. I thought Hugh Jackman was deliciously succulent (now don't I sound like Wolf from The 10th Kingdom - a miniseries recently ended on NTV7), and his manners were immaculately romantic - I wish my boyfriend could be half as good as him..... ah......

we hope she's getting better...
